Petrolatum might lock in moisture – but at what cost?

Petrolatum, mineral oil, paraffin – You’ll find them in countless moisturisers, baby creams, and “sensitive skin” products.

Yes, they seal in moisture. But they also coat the skin in a layer it can’t breathe through, without offering any real support to the barrier underneath.
That’s not what skin needs.

Why we avoid petroleum-based ingredients
Petroleum-derived ingredients are occlusives. They sit on the skin’s surface and block water loss. But that’s all they do.
They don’t repair the skin.
They don’t nourish it.
And they can trap sweat, heat, and irritants underneath – especially uncomfortable for babies and anyone with inflamed or itchy skin.

Over time, relying on petrolatum-based creams may leave the skin more dependent and less resilient.

What skin really needs: support, not suffocation
Atopic skin has a weakened barrier. It needs moisture, yes – but also structural lipids to help it heal, strengthen, and protect itself.
That’s why Allergoff uses bio-mimetic emollients, skin-friendly ingredients that mimic what healthy skin naturally does.

They help the skin:
✔ Stay hydrated without being suffocated
✔ Rebuild its natural defences
✔ Reduce sensitivity and reactivity over time
✔ Feel calm, soft, and supported

Petrolatum isn’t dangerous. But it’s outdated.
It belongs in the toolbox for short-term emergencies – not as a daily solution for delicate, reactive or eczema-prone skin.

Your skin isn’t just a surface. It’s a living organ that deserves care, not just coverage.
